Cecil’s role includes operating, repairing, and maintaining ROVs aboard the Atlantic Osprey, a vessel stationed offshore. His work is physically demanding, involving heavy lifting, climbing, and handling ROV equipment with precision. Cecil’s daily duties focus on controlling and troubleshooting ROVs to perform tasks such as equipment inspections, monitoring, and supporting drilling activities. The role requires strong mechanical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with his team, as communication and teamwork are vital on a vessel.

Cecil’s career journey started with a summer job during high school, progressing through various technical roles, including Avionics Engineer and Hydraulics Technician. His experience and technical skills eventually led him to the ROV industry, where he hopes to continue growing and potentially advance into a superintendent role within ROV operations management.

Cecil works rotational shifts of 28 days offshore, working 12 hours daily, followed by 28 days off. His day begins with safety checks and preparation of the ROV equipment. Once in operation, Cecil guides the ROV through a range of tasks, from inspections to data collection, all while communicating with his team to ensure smooth operations. Working offshore has taken him across various locations, including Europe, South America, and North America, but his current role remains based offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.
